Prevention of Fire Alarm Activation & Evacuation Procedure

  •  When an Evacuation is called, residents are to make their way in an orderly fashion to the designated Safe Assembly Area and remain there until further instructed by the Evacuation Co-coordinator(Caretaker) or the designated Fire Wardens (Committee members)
  • The official Safe Assembly Area for Cathedral Place is directly across from A Block foyer in Centenary Park on Gotha Street.
  • Please be aware, that when an alarm is sounded, residents are not permitted to use the lifts when vacating the building. Also, please do not attempt to re-enter the building until Queensland Fire & Rescue Service give the official clearance.
  • We would also like to advice, whilst we may have not had a major fire in the complex, residents are reminded not to become complacent about Fire Safety, ignoring the alarm under the assumption that it will be a false alarm.
  • It is also suggested you take the time to familiarize yourself with all the necessary fire exits and evacuation plans within your building.

Additionally, the Caretakers phone line needs to be kept clear at all times so as to be able to co-ordinate the evacuation effectively. As a result, we ask that you refrain from calling this number to determine whether it is indeed a real fire, and instead, proceed with the evacuation as instructed.

We also ask that residents who require assistance to evacuate the building in the event of an emergency please register their details with our office ASAP. If you require any further information, please direct all enquiries to admin@cpcaretaking.com.au

Caretaker’s Note:

As you are all aware, Cathedral Place has had a number of Fire Alarm Activations over the last couple of months. It has been brought to our attention that many residents are concerned that they will trigger an alarm simply by burning their toast. We can assure you that when you set off your unit alarm, it does not trigger an evacuation. What does trigger the main alarm is if you open your door to the hallway and let the smoke out which in turn can set off the hallway smoke detectors. Therefore, do not open your front door, but rather your balcony door, in the aim of clearing the air. We also ask residents to refrain from, removing, or otherwise tampering with, smoke alarms in the hallways, as this can also activate the alarm.
